I like the idea. And I think I'd like headlines displayed as a crawl at the bottom of a screen. When you touch a headline that interests you, it takes you to the article.

Good idea. Right now it is a simple news reader. What page do you see it scrolling on? Also remember - there are 3 supported screen resolutions. I find 800*480 kill me!!!! Just not enough room.

On my PH web pages, the crawl is on a catch-all screen. Stuff that does not fit anywhere else.

I'm using 800*600 and 1024*768.

I think like on Tony's page it doesn't have to go all the way across the screen.

As far as what screen to display on, probably the main screen.

A scoller may work better than a crawl since you need to fit it into multiple screen sizes.

I personally prefer the "screen saver" approach I would love the idea of being able to create a special screen saver screen which can be designed like other HA screens and the RSS, Weather, etc are widgets that can be used anywhere.

For this reason I have just started using Yahoo widgets on my ehome touchscreen as there is a great Vonage widget that shows me when I have voicemail. Doesn't look great on 800x600 though.

The more I add custom screens the less I am finding a need for the current Main Menu. I am imaging a custom main menu that allows me to show a system summary such as house temperature, couple of global variables like occupancy, Now playing music, time, weather, etc......

I agree with you there. There are parts of eHome that I use more than others and it would be ideal to have a Main screen that could be customized. For example, going directly to Kitchen Timers.

You can probably do all that using the user slots. That is what I am doing now with Tony and JBs help.

My main screen has the following custom buttons:

Music - links to my squeezeserver web page instead (a HA screen)
Hvac - links to my thermostat screen (HA)
Lights - another HA screen for my lighting
Calendar - links to my apple ical webpage via a HA screen
Cable - links to another HA screen to control my family room home theather via IR

I basically have none of the original buttons left unless you count weather.

LOL! You guys are killing me!!!! :D

I remember last year when someone posted wondering where the hot key assignments where? I said 'Its a touch screen program!' :?

Seems to me... That EH is evolving into 2 products. The screen designer (sort of turning into a net remote) with custom VBS and the original AVOD with kitchen, games and office for the non teckie people. I know that I have some users that use the EH rippers to adding movies and CD's.

Also...
In the next version, there is a new feature that is you only add 1 menu item to the main menu it goes to that item. So if you only had the Scrn designer as a menu it will go there and not go back to the main menu.

going directly to Kitchen Timers.

Added to the list.

Here is whats up in the next version.
1 - Added - If only 1 main menu is defined it automatically goes to this menu. (no other menu options are displayed)
2 - Bug fix - VBS sometimes stopped working if there was a in-proper formated function in the script.
3 - Added - TTS (computer speech) support added to VBS script. (uses the same engine as Powerhome)
4 - Added - All Powerhome globals are now stored internally (In real time) and can be retrived with the CARGO_ITEM VBS function.
5 - Added - New functions for VBS script: SOUND_CONTROL, UpdateShowSoundLevel, BlankScreen, UnBlankScreen.
6 - Added - 10 user defined timers added to VBS script. (1 to 65 seconds) (HA_TIMER_FIRE and ehHaEnableTimer)
7 - Added - New VBS script event - fired when Powerhome global vars change.
8 - Added - Menu editor wizard allows you to browse and change the main menu icons.
9 - Added - Client Ini editor wizard allows you to set text colors for backgrounds.
A - Added - Expanded script error logging to include line and column numbers.
B - Added - Kitchen snapin: Blackboard (Don't know if this will stay.)
C - Fixed - Bug in browser import function from wizard.
D - Added - Office snapin RSS News reader.

Planning on adding:
Analog PH device support.
Multi Zone Winamp

Expect it at the end of the month.
