Problems overlaying pictures

Postby martlist on Thu Feb 21, 2008 5:51 am

Is the overlaying of pictures supported?

Here is what I have done. I have a png of the floor plan of my house, and then a set of other pngs which are the shape of each of the rooms and are yellow when on and blank when off.

I put the floorplan down as a picture with no actions. I then put the rooms over the top in the right places and assign them to the relevant insteon lights using actions. I make sure I send the floorplan to the back.

The result looks great. As lights are turned on and off in the house the floorplan reflects the changes in realtime.

However, I should be able to press each room and turn the lights on and off. That only works in 2 of the rooms. Cannot work out what makes them different.

So as a test I delete the floorplan so I just have the rooms. Now I have no layered pictures. This time I can press on every room and they all work, turning all the lights on and off.

So this leads me to think that my problem is to do with the layering of pictures.

Anybody else layered pictures succesfully?

One thought I had was to put the floorplan on the background image instead of as a picture but I could not work out if I could have a different background for just one HA screen.

OK,

I think I got a bit further. I added an action to the floorplan and now I can see that it is responding to all the presses even though it is at the back, or at least I pressed the button to send it to the back.

So I went back and instead of sending the floorplan to the back, I brought all the rooms to the front. That worked!

So It seems there is some discrepancy between sending layers back vs moving others forward.

Yep - its all in the send to back - front. Has to do with what layer (picture) we created 1st. Don't know why. But as you discovered if send to back does not quite get the results you want the bring the other layer forward.

Also let me know if you have downloaded the new version yet.
I owe you some custom VBS code. :D

You are right. The 1st thing I added was the floorplan and it was the stubborn one.

I just downloaded and installed over the top of the previous install. I have to admit I was skeptical that it would just work with all the custom VBS changes I had made but it worked great!

Ok - now you have updated send me your eHomeClient.vbs file this weekend. I will add the code we spoke of last week.

No worries about the updates. i don't touch that VBS file on install.
