How do wall mounted touchscreens work? Are they self supported, or do they require a PC attached in some way? How do they connect to the network or powerline networks?

There are two versions: a Panel PC and a touch screen with a PC (could be a notebook) tucked somewhere. Some Panel PC's and touch screens can be mounted in a wall.
Panel PC: ~$700 New
Touch Screen Monitor: $100-600
Small PC: $250-500
US dollars used.

To expand on what TonyNo said...
Think of it as a laptop or a desktop. One is a all in one solution (the laptop includes the screen and computer in 1 package - aka a Panel PC or a touch tablet) and the desktop has the monitor and a PC that are separate.
Now in mounting the panel PC - you only need AC power as you can use wireless 802.11 for you network connection.
In mounting the separate components. The monitor is the only thing that goes on the wall. Its will need AC power and 2 connections to the hidden PC. One for the touch screen interface and one for the monitor itself.

Those look real nice. Still don't understand why we cannot get a x86 version for around the same price...
