No one here would have any issue running .NET code - Maybe I am just to worried about the older hardware. But getting a cheap touch screen off of eBay for $100 just has an attraction to it. :)

OK - just an update, we are still going into the direction of braking up eHome into some more discrete products. I ask forgiveness for my lack of attention these last few months and I have made a move back to the states from Ukraine. 36 hours of travel time (1 lost bag with the vodka in it!) and the 10 hour difference really messed me up. I must be getting old!

Check back this coming week as updates are on the way!

Love the direction. As you know I am one of the users who is only using the HA screens and weather today.

Only wish it was Java or Java FX and not .net. Would be great to be able to run this anywhere, even a mac.

iPhone/iPod Touch native client would be even better and would get you lots of PR ;-)

I'd say go for the PLM, a dimmer, and a lamp/appliance module to get your feet wet.

Keep in mind that there are PLM lockup issues right now with PH2 (should only be a few more weeks until it it addressed).

Agree with Tony. Maybe just buy a starter kit as you are going to need the access points!

Well, not necessarily. I don't have any installed and things work just fine.

PLM? I am assuming that is the controller that plugs in the computer that PH talks to?
http://www.smarthome.com/2412S/PowerLinc-INSTEON-Modem-Serial/p.aspx

But that is serial? Is there a USB? or will a USB to serial work?

My budget is $200 so maybe a kit? Also, where are the best prices?

Insteon newbee!!!!!

Yes, the PLM is the controller and it's serial. I use a USB-to-serial adapter with it.

SmartHome used to have a starter kit with some devices and a controller, but I don't see it anymore.

I suggest http://www.automatedoutlet.com/ as a great source. They usually do price matching, too.

And it what I am reading off of cocoontech the access points are for the RF side of Insteon?

Either of those. Remember, though, that the PLM is generally better, i.e. faster, more stable. :D

Yes, the access points are now for the RF side. Technically, it didn't exist until those.

Should have been clearer. Access points do RF. They also bridge the 2 phases of your house electrics if needed. So Tony is right. You don't necessarily need them but if you have reliability issues or bridging issues then you may.

Also, Smarthome has 15% off this weekend only.
